When I was in business school, I went on a leadership backpacking trip in Patagonia. One of our guides told me this analogy that stuck with me.
She drew a circle, representing our comfort zone. Then she drew a line of us going out of our comfort zone, then retreating. Over and over again, until she had what looked like a sun with rays. Then she drew a much larger circle around the original, representing our comfort zone growing.
This back and forth is what learning looks like. We step out of our comfort zone, then retreat in to process. Again and again, until our comfort zone grows, and we shine.
A few takeaways today: first, remember to let yourself retreat to your comfort zone after pushing yourself.
