How Was Your Day?

When Chloe started Kindergarten, she stopped wanting to talk about school. She stares at me blankly when I ask, 'How was your day?' I'm sad to be cut off.

Luckily, Rowan's school sent home questions for amping up our family conversations, which break through with her. Here are some of my favorites:

  • What was the best thing that happened at school today?

  • What was the worst thing that happened at school today?

  • What was the hardest thing you had to do today?

  • What made you laugh today?

  • What's the most significant difference between this year and last year?

  • Who did you sit by at lunch today? What do you talk about?

These questions get her talking and sharing her life.

The questions work with anyone in your life (just substitute school for work). Pick one today to go beyond small talk.
